Post a Comment. A similar experiment was tried with the Men's trials, where both the 10,M and 5,M distances were added as qualifying distances.
The standards set for the shorter distances were just off the A-Standards for the same shorter distance for the Women's 10,M track qualifying times are for the B-Standard and for the A-Standard.
So, essentially the shorter standard suggests that anyone who qualifies for the 10,M gets an automatic qualification to the marathon, but they will need to pay their own way to run a race in which they have little chance of making the team and may damage their chance to qualify for the Olympic team in the 10,M.

Shay of Flagstaff, Ariz. He would not have been taxed at that point. Ryan Hall, Dathan Ritzenhein and Brian Sell won the three spots on the men's marathon team, prevailing in a field of that included Meb Keflezighi, silver medalist at the Olympics.
This was an unusual format for the trials, which began at Rockefeller Center before heading to Central Park for five loops. This death, however, was especially startling considering Shay was an elite athlete. It was in New York two years ago while watching the marathon that Shay met his future wife, Alicia, also an elite distance runner.
Alicia was a college teammate at Stanford with Hall, and his wife, Sara. Sara Hall was a bridesmaid in their wedding in July. She was hoping to make it to Beijing in the women's 10, meters. Shay was a favorite going into the trials but was hampered by a hamstring strain and finished 23rd. He was a five-time national road racing champion, winning the U.
